PRESENTERS:
Kevin Henkes is the author and illustrator of close to fifty critically acclaimed and award-winning picture books, beginning readers, and novels. He received the Caldecott Medal for Kitten's First Full Moon in 2005. Kevin Henkes is also the creator of a number of picture books featuring his mouse characters, including the #1 New York Times bestsellers Lilly's Big Day and Wemberly Worried, the Caldecott Honor Book Owen, and the beloved Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse.  Kevin Henkes received two Newbery Honors for novels--one for his  novel for young readers, The Year of Billy Miller, and the other for Olive's Ocean. Also among his fiction for older readers are the novels Junonia, Bird Lake Moon, The Birthday Room, and Sun & Spoon. Kevin lives in Madison, Wisconsin. Kevin Henkes
 







Raina Telegemeier is the author and illustrator of the graphic novels Smile, Sisters, Drama, and Ghosts, all #1 New York Times bestsellers. Her interactive journal, Share Your Smile, encourages budding creators to try their hand at making comics of their own. Raina also adapted and illustrated four graphic novel versions of Ann M. Martin's Baby-sitters Club series. Her accolades include multiple Eisner Awards, a Boston Globe-Horn Book Honor, a Stonewall Honor, and many Best Of and Notable lists. Dan Gutman (via Skype) is an American writer, primarily of children's fiction. His works include the Baseball Card Adventures children's book series that began with Honus & Me, and over 70 books in the My Weird School series, and spinoff series including My Weird School Daze and My Weirder School. Other series includes Flashback Four and The Genius Files. Dan lived in NYC and will be Skyping with us. Dan Gutman
 







Elizabeth Rusch has written more than 15 books for children and more than one hundred articles for young people and adults. She has written about numerous nonfiction subjects ranging from volcanology to the life of Maria Anna Mozart. Rusch has also written several works of fiction including the picture book A Day with No Crayons and the graphic novel Muddy Max: The Mystery of Marsh Creek. Her books have won numerous awards and accolades including: The Oregon Spirit Award, Oregon Book Award. Her books include Avalanche Dog Heroes: Piper and Friends Learn to Search the Snow, and Will It Blow? Become a Volcano Detective at Mount St. Helens.  Elizabeth lives in Portland. Kate Berube (Bear uh bee) is an author and illustrator for five picture books that include  Hannah and Sugar, The Sandcastle that Lola Built, The Summer Nick Taught his Cats to Read. Her work has received starred reviews from Publishers Weekly and School Library Journal, and has been on multiple ‘best book’ lists, including Chicago Public Library, SLJ and All the Wonders. This series offers educators engaging conversations about the world of publishing, insights for learning about the speakers  private and personal life and books and teaching strategies for using this material in the classroom. In this all-new graduate class of TINT's popular Author Series, spend one Tuesday evening a month, January through May, immersed in the fabulous world of children’s books.
 
For the 30th year, nationally recognized authors and illustrators of popular children’s books will be sharing ways to use their books to motivate children in the reading-writing classroom.  Featured speakers will bring their unique insights into the writing, illustrating and publishing process as well as a personal look into their backgrounds. A balanced and integrated approach to teaching reading that supports literacy development will be shared. Designed for K-8 teachers and media specialists.
